Shower Challenge Update

I was pretty confident in knowing that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with writing a daily log of how my Shower Challenge was going.  It’s just a fact that you can not expend energy doing goals for so many things.  You’re only allotted so much willpower each day and as soon as your feet hit the floor in the morning you begin to use it.

Since I was writing them at the end of the day it was basically a push for me to do it.  Anyways, I do want to update just in case any of you are curious.

Last week, the boys and I did many new activities.  We built stuff with Legos twice, we watched a movie, we went to Chuck E. Cheese, and we even made up a few short stories.

I really enjoy Daddy Fun Time.  They do too.  In fact, they expect Daddy Fun Time now.  Unfortunately, last week I’ve totaled three days where they went to bed without the minimum time of 30 minutes set aside for Daddy Fun Time.

The disappointment in their voice when they are getting into bed and remembering that we did not have our time that day is disappointing to me.  So after a couple of times of disappointing I now have gained another motivator which is to not disappoint them.  I think that is more motivating to me than taking a cold shower.

I want to use time management as one of my goals next month which at this moment may be a cold shower every single day.  I get distracted by so many little things that I find myself losing time at the end of the day.

I wanted to go all seven days this week without a shower but I hope to put a nice streak together from here.  Maybe next time I’ll share our short story and illustrations that we have planned on the next update.

Nothing is more important than doing what makes you happy.  Stop buying stuff to try to impress others.  No one really cares.  Think about it.  Do you care when someone buys something that you wish you had?  You may be envious for a minute but eventually you’re not even thinking about it.  When you’re doing things that you actually enjoy because you want to life feels so much better.  Be happy because you want to not because the world is trying to tell how you should be.

Day 3 of The Unattainable Life Cold Shower Challenge - 1/3/14

Yup!  Three days in a row with no cold showers.  That’s how Daily Steps gets done.

Friday, even though I’m home for them, I still enjoy them like most people do.  I get to spend time with my wife for the next two days.  Usually, my kids are off from school (they’ve been off for 2 weeks for Christmas vacation).  I usually play some music and all the right songs come on.

Today didn’t have that overwhelming magical feel but it still felt like a Friday.  Yes, a lot of my Friday’s feel extra special.  It’s like everything good happens.

I spent most of the day tackling different goals for The Unattainable Life.  I worked on budget stuff, inventory stuff, packing and shipping orders (thank you for your support and purchases, the website, and the blog post from yesterday.

I felt like there are/is so many loose ends that I’ve overlooked.  I didn’t make the schedule that I wanted or things to accomplish for this month.  Everything was still on a whim.  I think I will use part of this weekend to plan.  Plan for next week for all sorts of things.

Daddy Time today was spent just before bed.  The boys and I played Fruit Ninja together on their new Nabi’s.  We played the multiplayer option.  We had some silly laughs over nonsense.  We played another game called Sprinkle where you try to put out fires but there’s an obstacle to doing it.  I’ve never seen or heard of the game but it came pre-loaded on their tablet.  It’s a pretty funny game.

They enjoy that I read to them every night.  They never ask their Mom.  I’m not sure why.  Maybe I’m more animated which was very obvious tonight.  I read them one of their 1000’s of books and they laughed at the silliness from it.

2014 is really turning out to be a great year.  I can really see a lot of fascinating things happening this year.  For example, Yvette and I got to go get froyo tonight.  Just the two of us.  A couple of months ago this would have seem like such a taboo thing since it rarely ever happened.  Us going on a “date” together alone that is.  For the last month or so we’ve done it a couple of times and it’s been great.  I hope we get to do it more.  I really enjoy our time.

Day 2 of The Unattainable Life Cold Shower Challenge - 1/2/14

Yesterday, I found myself writing a lot more than I thought I was going to write.  I was surprised by the words of encouragement and that people actually read what I wrote on the first day.

I write articles regularly and since no one comments on them I never really know if anyone reads them.  It was nice to know that my words were actually felt and read.  So thank you for reading.

Today, I completed both of my goals.  So, no cold shower for me tomorrow.  First, the boys and I went outside to finish off the fireworks that we didn’t do on NYE.  They were mostly just sparklers that they really loved to play with.  No really.  They were actually singing a made up song, “I love fireworks. I love fireworks!”.  I lit the pit to have a little fire.  It was a little chilly out this evening.

They were kind of disappointed because they have already attached what we’ve dubbed “Daddy Time” to obstacle racing.  They were kind of upset there were no obstacle races today.  I explained to them that everyday will be a new fun experience so it doesn’t necessarily mean that we will do obstacle races everyday.

I’m really enjoying our shared time though.  Doing fun things with them and listening to them have fun, again with no outside distractions, is very much worth it.

I also completed working at least an hour on The Unattainable Life.  I tried to leave doing an hour of work up to whatever but I’m finding that I need a little more mapped out direction.  I worked on a free monthly/daily planner for the site to download when you supply your email address.  I plan to have this done by next week.

I began writing a post as well on the theme of The Unattainable Life this year.  I work on finishing it tomorrow.

Not as sappy as it was yesterday but that was how my two goals were accomplished today.
